5 Most Popular Netflix Movies of All Time

From its early days as a DVD-by-mail rental service in 1997 to a billion-dollar streaming service as of 2025, Netflix has totally redefined how families watch and enjoy their favorite movies.

With over 300 million users across the globe, this streaming giant offers access to a diverse ocean of quality content that users can enjoy with just a reliable and high-speed internet connection.

P.S. Just in case you’re looking for an internet provider, I’d highly recommend checking out Xfinity Internet because they offer an affordable range of reliable and high-speed internet plans.

In addition to offering quality content from a range of nations, the platform also produces its own high-quality films that have captivated audiences across the globe.

This article will share 5 such films that have made the biggest impact in the hearts and minds of audiences everywhere. These original Netflix productions come from different genres and guarantee a good time across the board, making each one of them a must-watch!

Without further ado, let’s dive into the top 5 most popular Netflix movies of all time! Don’t worry, I won’t spoil them for those who haven’t yet seen them!

    1 Red Notice

5 Most Popular Netflix Movies of All Time – Red Notice

The Rock, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot come together to deliver laughs, plot twists, and action in an amazing heist-related adventure. The plot revolves around an FBI agent who has to reluctantly team up with a renowned art thief to catch an even more mysterious and notorious thief. While I didn’t expect it, the comedic chemistry between the Rock and Ryan Reynolds is gold and had me crying with laughter. The Rock’s muscles also come into play when creating the action sequences.

The film became the most streamed Netflix film in its debut weekend and also the most watched film within 28 days of being released. The best part? There is more to come as two sequels, yes two, are currently under development.

    2 Carry On

Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman share the screen in this fast-paced action thriller that packs a range of intense moments and well-executed action sequences. The film, set on Christmas Eve, focuses on a young TSA officer who receives a call from an unknown number blackmailing him to allow someone to pass through security or face the consequences. Soon, a word rhyming with it hits the fan, and we see the TSA agent trying to navigate a life-and-death situation.

The film, released just last year, dominated the charts across the globe! It got more views during its debut week than any other Netflix release. I don’t know about you, but I really wish for a sequel or at least a spin-off. Who knows, maybe someday!

    3 Don’t Look Up

5 Most Popular Netflix Movies of All Time – Don’t Look Up

Trust me, you won’t be looking up, down, or sideways at all when you’re watching this amazing blend of sci-fi, black comedy, and political satire! The film features an ensemble cast featuring too many stars to mention together, so I’m just going to mention the leads, those being Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence. Leo and Jennifer star as astronomers who try to warn the world about a comet that will collide and destroy human civilization. The film uses the comet idea to basically bring light to how indifferent media, governments, and the masses are to the real-life climate crisis.

The film made a major impact, becoming the second-highest streamed Netflix movie within 28 days of being released. Let’s hope the film inspired some efforts toward addressing the climate crisis, too.

    4 The Adam Project

The sci-fi action comedy also brings Ryan Reynolds and multiple major stars to the screen in a perfect blend of time travel adventure with a race against time.  The plot revolves around a pilot from the future who travels back in time to save his wife from being assassinated and stop a villain in his timeline from monopolizing time travel. The film has a lot of laughs, action sequences, and also some heartfelt moments that will make you cry your heart out.

The film is currently among the top 10 most popular Netflix productions in the English language. I am surprised the movie didn’t win any awards. I mean the effects, the characters, the performances, all were amazing! Talk about Hollywood’s weird judging standards.

    • Length: 1h47m
    • Hours Viewed: 281,000,000

    5 Bird Box

5 Most Popular Netflix Movies of All Time
5 Most Popular Netflix Movies of All Time- Bird Box

While there are other great post-apocalyptic horror thrillers out there, they have failed to create the legacy Bird Box has created. The plot centers on a woman who has to protect her children in the face of entities that cause people to commit suicide when looked upon. The film features one of my favorite actresses, Sandra Bullock, killing it in a new type of role, one where her character is strong, resilient, and detached, instead of the warm and likable ones we all are used to seeing. The film packs a high level of thrill, horror, and suspense, and had me hooked throughout.

According to Netflix, the film was the most-streamed Netflix film within 28 days of release back then. The popularity paved the way for a spin off type sequel, Bird Box Barcelona.

Netflix’s Top 5 – Timeless Classics but Not the End

The top 5 movies in this list have created legacies that will stay grounded forever; however, there is no limit to what more we can expect from the brilliant minds at Netflix.

Whatever the future has waiting for us, one thing is certain: Netflix is going nowhere but up, thanks to their focus on diversity, creativity, and originality that has given and will continue to give us masterpieces.
