The Popular Netflix Thriller Stephen King Calls “Fantastic” Returns

Stephen King might no longer be on Twitter, though there’s little doubt he will continue to use social media to share the movies, shows, and books he’s loving the most at the moment. The vocal champion of such 2024 titles as Night Swim and his own Salem’s Lot (not to mention Evil, the writer loves Evil), recently recommended a hidden Netflix gem you might not have heard about. Recently releasing its second season, Stephen King can’t seem to get enough of the Netflix series The Diplomat. His word carries weight, too, since The Diplomat is currently one of the most-viewed series on Netflix. Learn more below:

Per Netflix: Golden Globe winner Keri Russell stars in this gripping drama about a US diplomat chasing a conspiracy she fears reaches the highest levels of government

While Stephen King is no longer on Twitter, having migrated over to Threads (you can follow him here), one of the last things he shared was how he considered The Diplomat’s latest season to be “jaw-droppingly fantastic.” Abounding with twists, conspiracy, and stellar turns from its sensational cast, including Keri Russell and guest star Allison Janney. I smell Emmy Awards in the near future.

While The Diplomat isn’t the kind of show I’d regularly check out, largely because I’m having an incredibly difficult time keeping up with the sheer amount of great stuff to watch, I did check it out on King’s recommendation. And wouldn’t you know it? From what I’ve seen so far, the show is jaw-droppingly fantastic. It’s traditionally structured, high-gloss political intrigue, soapy in tone but compelling and propulsive all the same. It’s really fantastic stuff, and with a confirmed third season on the way, now is a great time to get caught up.

Fans online have additionally been loving the show. They’ve been shocked, horrified, and concluded the series is “brilliant” television. It genuinely is. Check out some choice social media reactions below:

The Diplomat on Netflix is such a brilliant piece of television! Not since House of Cards have I enjoyed a political drama this much. Can’t wait for Season 3!

The Diplomat is brilliant omg. Whenever the writers are, have done an amazing job writing Kate and Hals relationship. It’s soo complex yet you understand why they’re together. I can’t explain it ? #TheDiplomat

Oh my god, is anyone else watching The Diplomat? Has anyone seen the season finale? Oh my god.

Guyssssssss please watch The Diplomat on Netflix

The end of season 2 has finished me ??

REVIEW: Season 2 of THE DIPLOMAT doesn’t feel like a full season because it is shorter in length and in plot development, but it’s still very enjoyable. The cliffhanger twist in the finale is intensely silly and dumb. Can’t wait for season 3.

    — Ben Dreyfuss (@bendreyfuss) November 2, 2024

I absolutely loved the Season 2 finale of The Diplomat. It’s a cliffhanger, but the best kind. The kind that Ty Franck always talks about. The cliffhanger is NOT, what is going to happen. You see what happens. The cliffhanger is, what does this MEAN? So satisfying.

Shocked Pikachu is correct. The Diplomat will leave you reeling. Check out what everyone is obsessed with now on Netflix. I promise you won’t regret it. If you do check it out, let me know what you thought over on Twitter @Chadiscollins where I’ll unfortunately probably remain until my dying days.
