Comic book artist, illustrator and musician Alan Robert returns with the 7th installment of best-selling coloring book series The Beauty of Horror, and we’ve got an exclusive first look at some of the twisted images within.
In The Beauty of Horror: Backwards Records, officially on sale on February 11, Robert has taken some of the most iconic rock and metal album covers and turned them into their terrifying mirror images based on the lore of spinning a vinyl in reverse to hear the demonic messages it hides.
Speaking exclusively to FANGORIA, here’s what Robert has to say about the latest edition of The Beauty of Horror:
“It’s really hard to believe that I’m on my seventh volume of this series. I’m so grateful to all the horror fans and colorists out there for really embracing The Beauty of Horror. This has been a wild ride and it has completely exceeded all expectations. Fans especially have been having a lot of fun with the horror parody books I’ve done, and they’re hilarious for me to illustrate. Coming up with the spoofs is half the fun. I grew up on Mad Magazine, so this is a bit of an homage to that type of humor… just horror-themed.
So this time, I’ve cranked it up to eleven—taking popular album covers and mashing them together with my favorite horror movies and characters. It’s a whole new level of twisted! And no musician is safe… not even me! Yep, I even took a stab at my own band’s album, Life of Agony’s River Runs Red, and made it Evil Dead-themed. You’ll never look at your favorite albums the same way again.”
The Evil Dead-inspired colored images below come from the talented Sophie Dauod (Kiss, Katy Perry, Nirvana, and Prince parodies) and Kristýna Jeřábková (Life of Agony parody).
