Stephen King is one of the most prolific and celebrated authors of our time. While there are many of his works readers have come to know and cherish, his magnum opus is unquestionably The Dark Tower series. Composed of seven books (and several supporting works) published across more than two decades, it’s an absolutely massive body of work, and one that die-hard fans truly adore. Well, it seems like maybe – just maybe – King could be returning to that world sometime in the not-too-distant future.
Recently, King has been on Twitter talking about Dark Tower stuff. In one reply to a fan the author said, “Mid-World is still there. The Tower still stands.” King also shared some fan art from the series along with the caption, “There are no endings. Only new beginnings.” Naturally, some hardcore fans started seeing breadcrumbs. The folks at The Losers’ Club podcast then shared screenshots of some of these tweets asking, “Where are you taking us, @StephenKing?” tagging the author directly…and he replied! So, what did he have to say?”
I think maybe Mejis, beside the Clean Sea. And America-side. I can’t stop thinking about Mid-World. https://t.co/4ULbik855N

“I think maybe Mejis, beside the Clean Sea. And America-side. I can’t stop thinking about Mid-World,” the author said. In a word? Damn. Now, before we all start getting too excited, a fan asked for clarification as to whether King is just thinking about Dark Tower in some way, or if he’s actually writing about it. He replied, “Just thinking.” Still, where there’s smoke, there’s fire. When a guy like King gets to thinking, it can lead to more than just thinking. In short, there is hope this could turn into something more substantial than a few tweets.
What we know for sure is that King is staying busy right now. He just published a new short story collection earlier this year titled You Like It Darker. King also recently revealed that his next book is titled Holly, named after the protagonist of The Outsider and If It Bleeds. After that, who knows what King will get up to? The man basically never stops writing though, we know that much.
It is a potentially exciting time for fans of The Gunslinger and the Man in Black. Mike Flanagan, of Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep fame, is currently prepping a series adaptation of The Dark Tower. While that still seems like it’s several years off at best, Flanagan has confirmed recently that’s alive, despite his commitments on the next Exorcist movie. You know what would be a great way to fill the void until then? A new Dark Tower book! Your move, Mr. King.
You Like It Darker is available now. For more, get a behind the scenes look at this year’s Halloween Horror Nights at Universal.
