Hideo Kojima Loves the Best Horror Movie of 2024 Now on Max

hideo kojima loves the tv glow
Legendary and famed creative Hideo Kojima finally checked out 2024’s best horror movie; surprise, he loved it. Stream it on Max now.

Hideo Kojima is just a guy. A really cool guy, no doubt, since in between working (presently Death Stranding 2 for my mail delivery acolytes out there) he’s often just checking out any movies or shows he’s missed and regaling his online audience with stories of how much he’s loved them. Genuinely, that’s gotta be the life, right?

In the past, Kojima has spotlighted Dario Argento’s Opera (an unsung masterpiece) and helped bring in viewers for the exceptional YouTube series Fake Documentary Q. The latter is absolutely bone-chilling and worth checking out. Recently, Kojima finally caught up with one of 2024’s best horror movies, a title that not only made several staff Top 10 lists, but also landed at number 4 on the collective Dread Central 2024 ranking. With the film now streaming on Max, make like Kojima and check it out.

Per Max: Introduced to a mysterious late-night TV show — a vision of a secret, supernatural world — teenage Owen’s reality begins to crack.

Jane Schoenbrun’s I Saw the TV Glow is, quite frankly, a masterpiece. In my review out of the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, I wrote, “I Saw the TV Glow is no less singular, a groundbreaking odyssey of trans-identity and queerness whose horror-adjacent trappings consistently elevate it to classic status.” I Saw the TV Glow was even ranked as my favorite horror movie of the year. I know there are naysayers who don’t think the film is horror, but if you really let it sit with you, you’ll understand why it’s been so positively received.

Recently, Hideo Kojima not only checked the film out but subsequently spent several days tweeting about it. He really loved it, y’all. On a flight, Kojima remarked that of all the movies he watched, I Saw the TV Glow was the only one that stuck with him. You can check out his remarks in full below:

On the flight back, I neither read a book nor wrote anything—I just kept “editing in my head” while listening to music. I did watch a few movies, but the only one that stuck with me was “I Saw the TV Glow,”directed by Jane Schoenbrun and distributed by A24. pic.twitter.com/sZFEkS7p72

The following day, Kojima simply tweeted out a screengrab of his phone’s music app. Guess what movie’s soundtrack he was listening to?

Then, for good measure, Kojima tweeted out I Saw the TV Glow’s trailer.

Suffice it to say, Hideo Kojima is a certified I Saw the TV Glow fan. It reminds me of those old US Weekly editorials. “Hideo Kojima! He’s just like us!” Genuinely, I Saw the TV Glow is a masterpiece, a singular piece of cinema that’s profoundly human and regularly frightening in its existential dread. It’s nostalgia as horror, and if you’ve somehow missed it, now’s as good a time as any to finally check the film out. Remember, you can catch it streaming on Max.

What do you think? Do you agree with Hideo Kojima? Any plans to check I Saw the TV Glow out? Let me know over on Twitter @Chadiscollins.
