Hot off the release of MaXXXine, Ti West’s X trilogy is moving from the screen to the page with three official novelizations from A24 and writer Tim Waggoner.
The first in the trilogy, X, will be published later this fall on September 24. Pearl‘s novelization will follow on November 19, and MaXXXine is currently set for release in early 2025.
According to A24: “Author Tim Waggoner translates West’s vision into pulpy print format with grisly new details drawn from the original screenplay.”
Waggoner, a three-time Bram Stoker Award-winning horror and genre author, has plenty of experience with adapting films into novel format, having given Resident Evil: The Final Chapter and Halloween Kills the same treatment, as well as an upcoming Terrifier 2 novelization hitting shelves this Halloween.
The X trilogy is a era-spanning slasher saga which stars Mia Goth as adult movie star Maxine Minx in 2022’s X and 2024’s MaXXXine, and the titular antagonist Pearl in 2022’s surprise prequel Pearl. Goth also played an elderly version of Pearl in X.
The trilogy has been a bona fide hit for A24 and West, with each entry ranking fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
Excitingly, West has already teased that the trilogy MIGHT end up becoming a tetralogy in the distant future, so Waggoner might have to come back for a fourth novelization in a few years (fingers crossed!)
The vintage, pulpy covers of Waggoner’s new books (seen above) are absolutely perfect to match the X‘s trilogy’s retro vibes and aesthetics.
