Alien: Romulus is in theaters now, bringing the beloved franchise back to the big screen after a seven year absence. But it doesn’t end there! The folks at Mutant have partnered with Hollywood Records and 20th Century Studios to bring the film’s soundtrack home on vinyl. The record is available for pre-order now and, for those who enjoyed the film, this appears to be a very worthy addition to one’s collection.
The score was composed by Benjamin Wallfisch (It, The Invisible Man). As for the vinyl release of Mr. Wallfisch’s score, the limited edition release includes liner notes written by the film’s director Fede Alvarez. It also features original artwork by illustrator Kilian Eng, which we’ve included for you to check out below. It is pressed on 2x 140gm vinyl, with one record colored blood red the other in what can only be described as Xenomorph black/gray/white. Mutant Co-Dounder Mo Shafeek had this to say about it:
“Doing the impossible task of bridging the gap between sequels and prequels, Wallfisch takes the dissonant, atonal and truly horrifying soundscapes that Goldsmith defined the genre with, and makes peace with the melodies and monsters of subsequent films – all while making his own voice heard throughout. A truly remarkable piece of film music.”
Mutant launched earlier this year, with Spectrevision and former Mondo employees joining forces to bring carefully crafted collectibles to fans. Aside from posters, that has also included a number of impressive posters for movies like The Mummy, Late Night with the Devil and more. For fans of the Mondo of old, it’s been a real treat to have them carrying on in that same tradition.
As for Romulus, the film has been met with a generally warm response out of the gate. Alvarez’s contribution to the franchise takes place between Alien and Aliens, centered on a new cast of characters. It centers on a group of young space colonizers who are scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station and unwittingly come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe. The film stars Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), David Jonsson (Murder is Easy), Archie Renaux (Shadow and Bone), Isabela Merced (The Last of Us), Spike Fearn (Aftersun) and newcomer Aileen Wu.
