“Coming to you, or you coming to us?” A24 has unveiled the official trailer for a war movie called simply Warfare, the latest project (co-)directed by Alex Garland following his big action movie Civil War earlier this year. Warfare is actually co-directed by Alex Garland and the real life Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza, telling his own stories (from memory) of what it was like to be there. A member of SEAL Team 5, Mendoza came to partner with Garland on Warfare after serving as his military supervisor on Civil War. The huge ensemble cast features: D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis, Kit Connor, Finn Bennett, Taylor John Smith, Adain Bradley, Noah Centineo, Evan Holtzman, Henrique Zaga, Michael Gandolfini, with Joesph Quinn and Charles Melton. This looks like Black Hawk Down and Come and See – a brutally honest depiction of how war is hell and how terrible it is. Just pure war movie intensity from start to finish. I’m a big fan of Will Poulter and I’m glad to see him in this – will be watching.
Here’s the first official trailer for Alex Garland & Ray Mendoza’s Warfare, direct from YouTube:
Based on ex-Navy Seal Ray Mendoza’s real-life experiences as a soldier during the Iraq War. Mendoza joined the Navy in 1997 and served for over 16 years as a Member of SEAL Team 5 and a Land Warfare Training Detachment and BUD/s instructor. He was awarded a Silver Star ‘for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as Lead Communicator, Naval Special Warfare Task Unit-Ramadi, in direct support of Operation Iraqi Freedom on November 19, 2006.’ Warfare is co-written and co-directed by filmmakers Alex Garland & Ray Mendoza. Mendoza was the military advisor on Civil War. Garland has directed the films Ex Machina, Annihilation, Men, and Civil War previously. Produced by Andrew Macdonald, Matthew Penry-Davey, Allon Reich, and Peter Rice. Made by DNA Films. Garland & Mendoza’s Warfare lands in theaters sometime early 2025. Stay tuned for the exact date.
