Last Updated on March 16, 2024 by Angel Melanson Horror has been making its way into avenues where we may not obviously expect to find it. Infusing with pop culture and pop music. This is nothing new, but there seems to be a recent uptick (see The Weeknd), this intersection is delivering catchy tunes with some seriously wonderful juxtaposing imagery, paying homage to some of our favorites. Images from Tinashe‘s “Naturally” are circulating on social media and we had to pick our collective jaws up off the floor. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre vibes are aplenty, and we aren’t talking…
The long road leading to the release of developer GSC Game World’s S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is finally over. What began way back in 2010 is finally now available on PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store and GOG.com, as well as the Xbox Series and Xbox Game Pass. “It feels utterly surreal to say that, but after more than 7 years in the making, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is now released. That’s totally wild. So was the whole development story,” says Ievgen Grygorovych, GSC Game World CEO and Game Director. “What started as the most ambitious game by GSC eventually…

Peacock’s coming-of-age thriller series “Hysteria!” plunged its small Michigan town into full-blown Satanic Panic. Thanks to its teen protagonists and an atypically sympathetic police chief, order is mostly restored in Happy Hollow by season’s end. Chief Dandridge (Bruce Campbell) had a particularly stressful arc in showrunners Matthew Scott Kane (Stitchers) and David Goodman’s (The Orville) inaugural season; the observant yet patient small-town lawman nearly succumbed to the hysteria himself and rallied to survive a near-death confrontation with The Reverend (Garret Dillahunt). The finale wraps up the season’s overarching questions, yet leaves lingering signs that The Reverend and Tracy Whitehead’s (Anna Camp)…
While most of King’s dread vampires hunt and eat alone, 2013’s Doctor Sleep, the decades-later sequel to The Shining, introduces a whole cult of these creatures. Called the True Knot, this nomadic group is obsessed with identifying people who possess psychic abilities—people who “shine”—and ingesting the “steam” (psychic essence) they release when they die. Similar to If It Bleeds, these deaths can sometimes happen without the True Knot’s intervention. We’re told that on September 11, 2001, the cult drove to New Jersey and passed around a pair of binoculars to watch the tragedy unfolding across the Hudson. “There had been plenty for everybody that day, and in…

Last Updated on July 14, 2024 by FANGORIA Staff In February, this column is getting weird. As much as the fire hose of horror soundtrack releases offers an opportunity to celebrate classic composers, scores and films, it also introduces fans of the genre and collectors of media to obscurities they may never have heard or seen, and to artists to whom it behooves them to pay attention. But film music exists in many forms — sometimes as moody boilerplate, others for stories unfolding in the imagination — and it’s these outliers that we’re focusing on this month. These titles may…
