Even though it was probably the least overtly horror of the bunch, the one I had the biggest soft spot for was Skate Story. Developed by Sam Eng, this is like putting Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater through a dark horror/fantasy filter with a compelling, albeit abstract, narrative unfolding as the player becomes familiar with the art of skateboarding. It’s a blend of genres that would be tough to imagine until one gets their hands on it. Almost instantly, it feels like the kind of game one could play for 12 hours straight without realizing that much time had gone by.…
Fun Re-Release Trailer for Zany Comedy Classic ‘Hundreds of Beavers’ by Alex Billington November 17, 2024Source: YouTube “Stop arguing. Get together. Laugh your tail off.” Guess who’s back?! 🦫🦫 SRH has announced a December 2024 re-release of the cult classic comedy hit Hundreds of Beavers – made in Wisconsin and Michigan. The “frostbitten, anarchic slapstick action comedy” first opened in theaters in January 2024 after playing at festivals during 2023. It went on to find a big audience and become an under-the-radar genre sensation. In this 19th century, supernatural winter epic, a drunken applejack salesman must go from zero to…
Time travel is all the rage these days. Maybe it’s because the present moment feels so… not great? Time travel is an angle, and today, it’s one of the key distinguishing elements that can successfully set a slasher movie apart. Not to go full Roger Ebert, but he was correct, broadly, when he noted a slasher (dead teenager movie) really just needed some teens and a masked killer. The core is tough to iterate upon, but a dash of high-concept plotting can make a decades-old formula feel fresh. No wonder the totally killer slasher film, Time Cut has managed to…

Varèse Sarabande’s FIRESTARTER release. Last Updated on July 14, 2024 by FANGORIA Staff Back after a brief hiatus, there’s a volume of horror scores and soundtracks to cover equivalent to, say, an elevator full of blood. Most excitingly, we’re looking for the first time in the same at a showdown between the score to one horror film and its remake; a deep-cut soundtrack by one of the genre’s most accomplished luminaries; and both a spanking-new release and an all-time favorite reissued on vinyl—with a holy-grail disco cut, no less—for your collection of creepy sounds. First up, John Carpenter released a…
A decade after the release of This War of Mine, and just like they did on the game’s fifth anniversary, 11 bit studios has announced a new DLC to mark the occasion with “Forget Celebrations”. But as the name of the DLC implies, the game’s mission to shed light on the civilian cost of war is far from over. “Innocent lives are still being lost on battlefields, new conflicts are erupting, arms production escalates to feed war’s demand, and civilians and soldiers continue to face unimaginable brutality,” reads the press release from 11 bit studios. “With the world bleeding, we…
