Fear the Spotlight, the long-awaited first game from Blumhouse’s brand new video games division, launches today on various consoles, with a brand
Developed by Cozy Game Pals for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, X Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC, Mac and Linux via Steam, Fear the Spotlight is described as a creepy love letter to classic 90s horror experiences, perfect for the Halloween season.
Fear the Spotlight is an atmospheric third-person horror adventure with a disturbing mystery to unravel. When Vivian enters the deserted corridors for a seance with the rebellious Amy, she suddenly ends up alone, and at the mercy of the monster who wanders the halls. Vivian must avoid its gaze, find her friend, and uncover the disturbing, murderous truth of a decades old tragedy.
We got to play a demo of Fear the Spotlight at this year’s Fantastic Fest and it looks very, very promising. Fango’s own Ryan Scott described the game as follows:
This one very much has the feel of some PlayStation/Nintendo 64 era console horror, with a modern, intuitive feel. […] it’s the kind of game that one can pick up right away and intuitively understand how to play. The retro look provides nostalgic feels, with the game itself providing super creepy vibes despite looking like it’s 30 years old.
Speaking previously to FANGORIA, Blumhouse Games president Zach Wood expanded on why Fear the Spotlight is a perfect representation of the new games division:
“This game speaks to the kinds of games we really want to do. It’s really authentic […] There’s a lot of passion behind it. It’s a really good story. It’s legit scary. It’s retro in its visuals, but that’s intentional. But it also feels very modern in how you play it.”
Fear the Spotlight is one of six titles announced as part of Blumhouse Games’ launch, including the mysterious Code Name: Project C from Infinity Pool‘s Brandon Cronenberg.
