Professional football is becoming a real horror show in Justin Tipping’s upcoming horror film Him, coming this September from Monkeypaw Productions and Universal Pictures. Tipping and co-writers Zack Akers & Skip Bronkie delve into the world of fame and the quest for perfection through the lens of a young football player. Their film asks the question, “What would you sacrifice to become the greatest of all time?”
Cameron Cade is a rising-star quarterback who has devoted his life and identity to football. On the eve of professional football’s annual scouting Combine, Cam is attacked by an unhinged fan and suffers a potentially career-ending brain trauma.
Just when all seems lost, Cam receives a lifeline when his hero, Isaiah White (Marlon Wayans), a legendary eight-time Championship quarterback and cultural megastar, offers to train Cam at Isaiah’s isolated compound that he shares with his celebrity influencer wife, Elsie White (Julia Fox). But as Cam’s training accelerates, Isaiah’s charisma begins to curdle into something darker, sending his protégé down a disorienting rabbit hole that may cost him more than he ever bargained for.
This first teaser includes some harrowing imagery, and it looks like Tipping isn’t holding anything back in this takedown of professional football. It’s a subject never really navigated in the horror genre, and it’s exciting to see it finally tackled (pun intended), especially by a team like Monkeypaw Productions.
Former college wide receiver Tyriq Withers (Atlanta, the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer) stars as Cameron Cade. The cast also includes Tim Heidecker and Jim Jefferies, as well as MMA heavyweight fighter Maurice Greene and hip hop stars Guapdad 4000 and Tierra Whack in their feature film debuts.
Ian Cooper (Nope, Us), Jordan Peele (Candyman, BlacKkKlansman), Win Rosenfeld (Candyman, Lovecraft Country), and Jamal M. Watson (Hala, Sprinter) produced the film for Monkeypaw Productions. It’s executive produced by David Kern and Monkeypaw’s Kate Oh.
Him comes to theaters on September 19, 2025.
