Jack Quaid Feels No Pain in New Trailer for ‘Novocaine’

Jack Quaid Feels No Pain in New Trailer for ‘Novocaine’

    Novocaine
Jack Quaid as “Nate” in Novocaine from Paramount Pictures.

I’ve been tricked by a trailer before. So, do not take my word as gospel. However, the preview for the upcoming action horror comedy Novocaine looks pretty promising to me. The action appears to be intense. The humor seems appropriately quippy. And the setup seems like it’s poised to deliver. Not to mention, the directorial team behind the project (Dan Berk and Robert Olsen) previously helmed the mind-bending Maika Monroe sci-fi horror Significant Other.

The film’s lead character Nathan Caine (played by Jack Quaid) literally feels no pain. Such a condition is not the work of fantasy. Congenital Insensitivity to Pain (CIP) is a real, albeit rare, condition experienced by a small number of people worldwide (only a few hundred individuals on Earth are estimated to experience said condition).

Although CIP can be rather dangerous to those who experience it in real life, the concept makes for an interesting cinematic setup. It’s almost like a superpower. In Nathan’s case, he uses his malfunctioning nerve endings to his advantage as he sets out to avenge his girlfriend’s kidnapping.

The film has not yet been rated by the MPAA, but it looks like we’re in for a violent ordeal with this one. I suspect the flick will ultimately secure an R-rating when it goes before the organization. It’s hard to imagine a concept like this realized for a family-friendly audience. Hooray for a bit of the old ultra-violence.

You can scope the brand-new trailer in the player below. Also, check out the newly released one sheet, which looks a little bit like a take on the classic Hasbro game Operation.

The official plot synopsis for Novocaine goes as follows:

When the girl of his dreams (Amber Midthunder) is kidnapped, everyman Nate (Jack Quaid) turns his inability to feel pain into an unexpected strength in his fight to get her back.

    Novocaine

Jack Quaid stars alongside Amber Midthunder, Ray Nicholson, Betty Gabriel, Matt Walsh, Lou Beatty Jr., Van Hengst, Conrad Kemp, and Jacob Batalon.

Lars Jacobson, who previously co-wrote the script for 2017’s Day of the Dead: Bloodline penned the screenplay for Novocaine.

That’s all we have for you at present, dear reader. Stay tuned to the site for more exciting updates on what’s coming down the cinematic pipeline as they break. If you’d like to chat more about this upcoming release, hit me up on Threads @FunWithHorror.
