Streaming is a bit like a shell game. When a platform adds a new film, it inevitably takes something else away. Accordingly, we do our best to keep our readers up to date on which titles are coming and going from popular streaming platforms. On that note, we have an update regarding a pulse-pounding thriller making its exit from Netflix in early March. The film in question is John Hyams’ Alone.
When does Alone leave Netflix?
If you haven’t yet experienced the film, I highly recommend seeking it out while you still can. The last day to watch this tale of a chance encounter gone horribly wrong on Netflix is March 7th. The streamer will remove the film on March 8th.
If the mention of director John Hyams’ name rings a bell, it may be because the filmmaker also helmed the Kevin Williamson-penned pandemic slasher Sick.
Hyams directed Alone from a screenplay by Mattias Olsson. The flick is actually an English-language remake of Olsson’s 2011 film Försvunnen (Gone).
Alone stars Jules Willcox, Marc Menchaca, and Anthony Heald. The picture features a rather small core cast, but each of the performances is memorable and engaging. Not to mention, the characters are well-written.
The film ranked as the #1 most-watched movie on Google Play in its first week of release. The picture also managed to score a slot in the Netflix top 10 when it first bowed on the platform.
I previously covered Alone for my Dread Central column, The Overlooked Motel. In my glowing critique, I said: “This is a masterfully suspenseful horror thriller that also offers a valid assessment of the dangers of running from uncomfortable feelings. In that sense, the film isn’t really a meditation on grief at all, more so than a commentary on the dangers of trying to escape it.”
