Do you need more Michael Douglas in your life? I’m sure you do. His films are endlessly watchable and he’s got a perpetual charm that transcends time and space. Douglas has played more iconic characters than I have time or space (see what I did?) to list here. Gordon Gekko from Wall Street, Hank Pym from the MCU, Dan Gallagher from Fatal Attraction, and many, many more. One of my favorite pictures from Douglas’ storied filmography is currently streaming on Prime Video. And that’s all the more encouragement I need to gush about my undying appreciation for the title in question. What is the title in question? Well, I’m glad you asked, dear reader. I’m talking about David Fincher’s The Game.
Few films have blown my mind like The Game. The winding narrative, the show-stopping performances from a gifted cast, and the insane twist are just a few reasons why I revisit the flick with surprising regularity. Speaking of which, I penned an editorial praising the picture as the rare cinematic effort that hinges on a twist yet remains infinitely re-watchable.
Here’s an excerpt from my past coverage: “All things considered, The Game is an absolute masterpiece that manages to work effortlessly despite a narrative twist that could have easily derailed the proceedings. It’s one of Fincher’s most noteworthy efforts and a title I have only grown to love more over time.”
The nuts and bolts:
Fincher helmed the picture from a brilliant screenplay by John Brancato and Michael Ferris. The dynamic duo previously collaborated on the script for both Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and The Net.
The film consists of a fairly small core cast. Douglas stars alongside Sean Penn, Deborah Kara Unger, and James Rebhorn.
Synopsis per Google Movies: Nicholas Van Orton (Douglas) is a successful banker who keeps mostly to himself. When his estranged brother Conrad (Penn) returns on his birthday with an odd gift — participation in a personalized, real-life game — Nicholas reluctantly accepts. Initially harmless, the game grows increasingly personal, and Orton begins to fear for his life as he eludes agents from the mysterious game’s organizers. With no one left to trust and his money gone, Orton must find answers for himself.

If I’ve successfully piqued your curiosity and you’re ready to check out The Game, head over to Prime Video and give the flick a shot. I think you’ll be glad you did.
That’s all that I’ve got for you at present. Stay tuned to the site in the near future for more updates on which films within your interest set are available to stream and where to find them.
