If you count yourself a fan of James McAvoy, I’ve got good news for you. One of the Split actor’s films is now on Prime Video, better yet, it’s charting in the top 10. I’m talking about James Watkins’ (Eden Lake) English-language remake of the Dutch horror film Speak No Evil. The film landed on Prime on April 1st but didn’t pick up much momentum until recently. It has just been in the past week that the flick has started to show up on the charts. Today, Speak No Evil stands as the number one horror movie on the platform and sits in seventh place overall.

Speak No Evil is the rare remake that manages to carve out its own path, paying homage to its predecessor without functioning as a carbon copy. Critics praised McAvoy’s performance as the unhinged antagonist and additionally connected with the film’s social commentary. The picture speaks to the irrational fear of offending others and the dangers of acquiescing in the name of social grace and politeness.
Critics weren’t alone in their appreciation of the film, movie lovers have been similarly taken. Don’t believe, me? I’ll put my money where my mouth is. I surprisingly enjoyed the Speak No Evil remake. It felt much more satisfying. Nice use of ‘Eternal Flame’ by The Bangles. pic.twitter.com/RmVPewjrcW

I have had literally 0% attention span for movies or tv shows lately, but Speak No Evil was very good. First movie that’s kept my attention for quite a while. Plus James McAvoy. pic.twitter.com/38xhhbrSLz

The setup for this reimagining goes like this: A dream holiday turns into a living nightmare when an American couple and their daughter spend the weekend at a British family’s idyllic country estate.
In addition to directing Speak No Evil, Watkins also claims the only screenwriting credit on this acclaimed reimagining.
Christian Tafdrup directed the original and cowrote the film with his brother Mads Tafdrup.
There it is. Speak No Evil is finally making a ruckus on Prime Video. If you’re keen to see what the fuss is about, head over there and check it out for yourself.
