A deadly new chapter is nearly upon us, Dead by Daylight fans. The folks at Behaviour Interactive have unveiled a teaser and new details for the forthcoming addition to the popular game, which will bring both a new Killer and a new Survivor to the Trials. Get ready to meet The Houndmaster and Taurie Cain in Doomed Course.
The below teaser offers our first glimpse at The Houndmaster, aka Portia Maye, as well as Taurie Cain, with the two characters “bound by tragedy.” Dead by Daylight is constantly innovating, including the introduction of a 2v8 mode earlier this year. In this case, it sounds like we’re getting a particularly innovative Killer and Survivor combo in the game’s latest chapter. Per Behaviour…
“Separated by centuries and bound by tragedy, a doomed Killer and Survivor enter the Trials, each twisted by their own darkness to become something unforeseen.”
Doomed Course is available via the Steam public test build, with the new chapter officially releasing for all on November 28. The chapter’s big new Killer, The Houndmaster is billed as one of the most unique and tragic characters to enter the DbD universe. Beginning life as a curious, kind-hearted girl, Portia Maye’s mind was shattered when she was forced to witness the brutal torture and murder of her father at the hands of pirates in the 19th century. She was consumed by her hatred and grew up alone on the mysterious Dragon’s Tooth Island in the Bermuda Triangle. Portia then devoted her life to inflicting pain on those responsible. The only remaining tie to her humanity? The bond she shares with her hulking dog Snug, a gift from her father, who aids her in the hunt.
That’s right! This Killer comes with the first controllable animal companion in the history of Dead by Daylight. Snug, who we get a glimpse of in the above teaser, will serve to help Portia chase, track, and grip fleeing Survivors so she can finish the job. Players will have two different commands for Snug; Chase and Search. The Chase command sends the pooch charging forward with the option to redirect him for additional control. If he catches a Survivor, he will drag them back towards The Houndmaster. As for Search, that command creates a Houndsense radius that widens as Snug moves, sniffing out and revealing any Survivor caught within its reach.
Now, let’s talk about our new Survivor, Taurie Cain. Described as “morally grey,” she was born and raised in a cult known as the Black Talon cabal, which was dedicated to understanding and worshiping The Entity. Taurie lost her mother and brother exploring a Bleed – an overlap between our world and The Entity’s Realm. When she returned, her heart was touched by darkness, and she believed her destiny was to serve The Entity. However, when The Fog finally came to take her, she discovered that she was to be a Survivor, not a Killer.
Behaviour also teases that these two characters share common ground. Even though they are separated by centuries, The Houndmaster and Taurie Cain’s stories share a common thread, which is exposure to Bleeds. These Bleeds are believed to be the overlaps between The Entity’s Realm and our world, allowing people to enter The Fog. This new Killer and Survivor’s exposure to Bleeds changed each of their lives, driving one to murderous madness and the other towards a life devoted to The Entity.
That’s about the size of it! This is just the latest in what is shaping up to be a big year for Dead by Daylight. Not only has the game had lots of events and new content, but the franchise has also expanded with new games, such as the single-player The Casting of Frank Stone. Unfortunately, the planned shooter known as Project T was canceled, but that did demonstrate Behaviour’s desire to protect the brand they’ve built. If it’s not good enough, they aren’t going to release it.
